Progressive Theater is dedicated to empowering youth aged 12-18 in underserved communities to excel in the Entertainment and Arts industry. Through our comprehensive programs, we provide instructional classes and hands-on learning experiences in script writing, acting, music production, directing, producing, and more. Our mission is to nurture creativity, cultivate talent, and instill confidence in young individuals, regardless of their background or socioeconomic status. By offering access to quality education and mentorship, we aim to bridge the gap between ambition and opportunity, equipping our students with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in the competitive world of entertainment. At Progressive Theater, we believe in the transformative power of the arts to inspire, educate, and uplift communities. Through our innovative approach to arts education, we strive to create a more inclusive and equitable society where every child has the chance to pursue their passion and fulfill their potential. Join us in shaping the next generation of artists, leaders, and change-makers. Together, we can build a brighter future for our youth and empower them to dream big, create fearlessly, and prosper in the entertainment industry.
Progressive Theater was born from a shared dream between husband and wife team, Donnell Casey and Monique Disu, who first envisioned the organization in 2003. As artists, parents, and advocates for youth development, they recognized early on the transformative power of the arts, especially for young people in underserved communities. However, due to financial barriers and life responsibilities, including full-time work, their vision had to remain on hold for many years. Despite the delay, their commitment never wavered.
In 2023, two decades after the initial spark, Donnell and Monique took a leap of faith and officially established Progressive Theater as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. They began laying the groundwork for a creative space where youth could explore theater, media, dance, visual arts, gaming, and photography—areas often inaccessible to low-income families. Today, both founders remain deeply involved, pouring their evenings and weekends into building community programs, organizing back-to-school drives, and delivering meals to local families in need. Their long-term goal is to secure a permanent facility that will serve as a creative sanctuary and launchpad for future generations of artists and storytellers.
